Design is the enabler through which we can re-imagine our city, and improve the lives of its citizens.
When it comes to creative design, Cape Town does not stand back for any city in the world – and that’s official! The Mother City has been designated World Design Capital 2014 by the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (ICSID), outbidding rival shortlisted cities, Bilbao and Dublin.
Cape Town will play host to a number of World Design Capital signature events this year. It will place local initiatives in the global spotlight, welcoming more visitors into our city. The theme, ‘Live Design. Transform Life’ is providing a platform to showcase a range of exciting projects.
To celebrate design The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa has teamed up with travel experience provider, Coffeebeans Routes to offer an exclusive package called ‘Live Design, Transform Life’ that is available until the end of December 2014. It’s essentially an experiential journey that explores how design has shaped our city and our lives in Cape Town, and how it can and is shaping our future.
The 4-night package is flexible and can be tailored to specific World Design Capital activities happening over the dates of each booking. The itinerary includes a four-night stay at The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, with time set aside to relax and enjoy a fine dining experience in Azure Restaurant, or a movie at the in-house cinema. Guests may also indulge in the ultimate treat, enjoying our newly introduced B| Designed spa treatment at the tranquil Spa.
Guided visits via the District Six Museum to the Slave Lodge and the Oranjezicht City Farm, and an excursion to Langa to absorb the Maboneng Township Arts Experience are all part of this cultural and historical adventure. The District Six Memorialisation project, a series of heritage tours, illustrates life in this historically significant neighbourhood. The Oranjezicht City Farm (OZCF) is a non-profit project that champions under-utilised public green spaces, while educating neighbourhood residents and their children about food and the environment. The Maboneng Township Arts Experience, a public arts festival that brings the art experience into the community of Langa – the city’s oldest township – turns private homes into art galleries and performance events venues, whilst The Bottom Road Sanctuary is a one-man conservation success story.
On the Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa package visitors will also explore the city’s art world, visit creative hubs like the Old Biscuit Mill, the Woodstock Exchange and Side Street Studios, go on a whistle-stop design tour of Cape Town, and savour local cuisine at some of the city’s hip and happening restaurants. The journey concludes with a visit to the spectacular winelands and tastings of the region’s top wines, to conclude the ultimate itinerary of exploring the wonders of Cape Town.
