1. HOUT BAY
Often referred to as the ‘Heart of the Cape’, Hout Bay offers a yacht and boat marina, a working fish fleet, wonderful local craft market, local restaurants including the very popular Mariner’s Wharf and daily boat trips to the nearby Seal Island.
2. SEAL ISLAND
Home to approximately 6000 Cape Fur Seals, Seal Island is a 15 minute boat trip from Hout Bay Harbour where several operators offer daily trips to see this breeding colony. Our concierge team is able to assist with bookings for these trips.
3. HOUT BAY VINEYARDS
This boutique cellar was established in 2001 and produced its first vintage in 2004. The wines are available on Open Days, every last Saturday in May and November where you can spend the afternoon with a picnic on the lawn or under the Blue Gum Trees.
4. WORLD OF BIRDS WILDLIFE SANCTUARY AND MONKEY PARK
Visit the largest bird park in Africa with over 3000 birds and small animals of 400 different species which are housed in walk through aviaries, allowing an up-close nature experience. Make sure to include one of the daily feeding sessions into your schedule for either the penguins, pelicans, cormorants or the birds of prey.
5. BAY HARBOUR MARKET
Bay Harbour Market is situated in a working harbor in an old fish factory and offers more than 100 stalls which range from art, crafts and fashion, a delicious array of food and drinks and wonderful live, local entertainment. The market is open Fridays from 17h00 – 21h00 and Saturdays and Sundays from 09h30 – 16h00.
6. NOORDHOEK FARM VILLAGE
Located at the foot of Chapman’s Peak with rural surroundings, a rustic atmosphere, vast wetlands and it’s famous beach, Noordhoek one of Cape Town’s most treasured destinations. Visit some of the local-produce boutique stores or dine at one of the award-winning restaurants, The Food Barn Restaurant and Deli.
7. IMHOFF FARM
Situated in Kommetjie, en-route to Cape Point, Imhoff Farm is guaranteed to be a great day out for the entire family. There is a variety of activities for visitors to enjoy including delicious food and organic produce, boutique stores and camel rides to name a few.
8. HORSE RIDING ON NOORDHOEK BEACH AT ‘THE DUNES’
Experience Noordhoek beach on horseback, riding through the wetlands and follow the water’s edge towards Chapman’s Peak and then back to the stables. You’ll enjoy spotting a variety of wildlife along the way including whales during season, otters and seals.
9. KOMMETJIE “SLANGKOP” LIGHTHOUSE
The only cast-iron lighthouse in Africa and the tallest of its kind along the South African coast stands 30m high; Slangkop (meaning Snake Head in Afrikaans) has been functional since 1919. It has a rotating electric light that flashes every 30 seconds. The central point of the light is 41m above water so that it is visible even in misty weather. This is a great location for keen photographers.
10. CONSTANTIA WINE ROUTE
Approximately 10 minutes from the hotel, the Constantia Wine Route is made up of nine producers – Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia, Buitenverwachting, Constantia Uitsig, Steenberg, Constantia Glen, Eagle’s Nest, Beau Constantia and Silvermist – and dates back to 1685. It is the oldest wine-making region in the Southern hemisphere offering a rich history and quality wines.
