The Twelve Apostles Hotel

Whether inspired by the plants of the fynbos in the Western Cape, or the sea salt found in the Atlantic Ocean that surrounds The Twelve Apostles Hotel, B|Africa beauty products and treatments are a tribute to the stunning natural surroundings of Red Carnation Hotels' African properties. Guests can enjoy an in-spa experience using B|Africa's natural, highly effective range at any of the African hotels, and also pick up a few products to take home. Here, Joanne De Wet, Spa Manager at The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, tells us more about the story behind B|Africa and her top picks for frequent travellers.

Can you tell us a bit about the backstory behind the B|Africa product range?

"The B|Africa range was created by Red Carnation Hotels and directly inspired by the natural beauty of its African properties. The products use natural ingredients that grow in the natural habitat surrounding the hotels, whether that's African plant extracts that thrive on the Bushmans Kloof reserve the marine plants growing off the coast close to The Twelve Apostles. The brand celebrates nature's bounty of beautifying and mood boosting ingredients and utilises them in its luxurious and effective products and treatments."

What kind of native African plants are used in the products and why?

"Active ingredients found in B|Africa products and treatments include baobab tree oil, marula oil, avocado butter, rooibos, mongongo nut and West Coast Atlantic sea salts. Every ingredient is sustainably harvested, in keeping with Red Carnation Hotels' ethos, and none of the products contain synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. Likewise, all of B|Africa's suppliers adhere to organic certification, sustainability and Fair Trade principles."

What are your favourite spa treatments that incorporate B|Africa products?

"Our Traditional Touch Therapy Massages are my favourite as they have been created as a way of allowing each individual guest to experience B|Africa. Our Traditional Touch therapies include our deep tissue massage, hot stone massage and our Swedish massage. Each guest is given a choice of B|Africa massage oils - Rose Quartz moisturising oil, Detoxifying oil and the Muscle relax oil - and can select the one that will benefit their needs the most. Each treatment ends with an application of the instant revitalise gel to soothe the muscles and leave the guest feeling relaxed and refreshed."

What B|Africa products will help guests create their own spa experience at home?

"We have a wide variety of B|Africa products that guests are able to take away and use at home. We always encourage guests to extend the benefits of their spa treatments by incorporating a few carefully chosen products into their daily routines, such as the divine smelling Lemongrass and Lime Body Wash, which is a fantastic way to wake yourself up every morning! The Lavender and Jasmine Body Oil is also a wonderfully indulgent everyday treat that helps calm the skin and deeply moisturize and our famous B|Africa Soya Shea candle is an easy way to create a spa experience in your own bathroom."

What are your top product picks for weary travellers suffering from jet lag or general fatigue?

"In my opinion, the best product for jetlag or general fatigue is the Instant Revitalising Gel, which can be liberally applied to tired legs and shoulders and has a delightfully fresh and uplifting effect."
