The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa has chosen to work closely with The Amy Biehl Foundation as our chosen charity and aims to support it as much as possible.
Founded in 1997, The Amy Biehl Foundation is a non-profit organisation based in Cape Town whose mission is to prevent youth violence through a holistic approach to youth and community development in socio-economically disadvantaged communities in and around Cape Town. The Foundation works to develop and empower underprivileged youths aged 6 – 18 years in the Townships to contribute to their communities.
One way in which we raise money for the Foundation is by adding R10 to every guest account. The hotel also donates all monies saved as a result of our Green initiates to the Foundation. All greeting cards used for internal hotel matters are purchased from the Foundation and made by the children of the Foundation. All proceeds from the sale of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection president and founder, Mrs Bea Tollman’s cookbook are donated to the Foundation. To further our social commitment to the community, the Hotel’s Green Team arranges a project or outing once a year with the children of the Amy Biehl Foundation.
Another charitable involvement is that of the Azure Restaurant, which together with our guests, is a benefactor of the StreetSmart initiative. This registered non-profit organisation raises funds for street children. The StreetSmart card is displayed in our bill folders and our wait staff are trained to brief our guests on StreetSmart, what the organisation does and who some of the beneficiaries are, and then guests are given an opportunity to donate anything from R5 and above to the organisation.
StreetSmart raises money via participating restaurants, of which the Azure is one, and distributes this money directly to established organisations with the experience and facilities to help children who are living on the streets.
We are also proud members of Pack for a Purpose, an initiative that allows travelers like you to make a lasting impact in the community at your travel destination. If you save just a few kilos of space in your suitcase and bring supplies for area schools or medical clinics in need, you'll make a priceless impact in the lives of our local children and families.
