The readers of Condé Nast Traveler have named The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa Number Two Hotel in Africa in the magazine‘s 21st Annual Readers‘ Choice Awards. The awards are derived from the Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Survey, the largest independent poll of consumers’ preferences. Over 32,000 readers voted this year.

Twelve Apostles Hotel And Spa Gearing Up For Major Sporting Events

Cape Town, South Africa, is well known for the annual Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour and the Two Oceans Marathon, both of which garner the interests of athletes throughout South Africa and the rest of the international sporting world. Condé Nast Traveler has named The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa finalist in the magazine‘s 2008 World Savers Awards. The hotel is one of 38 companies selected worldwide as a leader in social responsibility in the magazine’s September issue.

Seventeen judges reviewed 142 applications and rated how applicants exercise social responsibility in five key areas: poverty alleviation, cultural and/or environmental preservation, education, wildlife conservation, and health. Thirty-eight finalists were named and the final winners were determined by compiling the judges‘ overall rankings.

The finalists will be recognized at the World Savers Awards ceremony on September 23rd at the 2nd Annual Condé Nast Traveler World Savers Congress in New York City.

Under times of extreme stress I have an odd fantasy. It involves me being hospitalised in some fine mental institution -- such as one you might find in a posh old English movie -- dressed in fluffy slippers and gown, sedated to the eyeballs, being spoon-fed puréed veggies and patted sympathetically on the arm by a kindly nurse.

It's bizarre, I'll admit, and politically incorrect without a doubt, but the basis of the fantasy lies in a desire to give over complete control and care to anyone but myself. Not forever, you understand, just a day or two - long enough for my anxieties to find a resting place and quit their frenetic bombardment.

The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa receives prestigious Chaîne Des Rôtisseurs award.

The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa was well represented at the Chaîne Des Rôtisseurs Annual Awards when it sent staff members Luvo Ntezo, Sommelier, and Siyolo Vokwana, Chef de Partie. Both are outstanding in their respective fields and at the top of their class in the Western Cape Regional competition.

Luvo received high honours for his contribution to exceptional dining and was awarded the Chaîne Des Rôtisseurs in the 'Young Sommeliers' category. He will compete in September in the international competition in Vienna, where he will represent South Africa.   He has aleady received his wine certificate, which was complemented by a Cape Wine Academy diploma earlier this year. His aim is to be top Cape Wine master.

Earlier this year, Siyolo travelled to Singapore for South Africa week where he cooked for dignitaries.   Always enamored of cooking, his dream has seen him grow rapidly from strength to strength in the industry. He came within the top ten chefs in the Sunday Times Food Show Competition (Young Chef of the Year category) and was placed second in the Mushroom Rising Star Competition in 2007.

Their recognition, which is highly respected and recognised by food purveyors, critics and fine-dining restaurants worldwide, will certainly push these men ahead of their game.
