Event: 12th Encounters South African International Documentary Festival at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront
Date: August 12th to 29th
South Africa's Cape Town may be in the spotlight due to the World Cup at the moment, but when the tournament ends next month there will still be plenty of events taking place to interest those who are planning a stay in the city after the exodus of football fans.
Encounters, an annual festival celebrating documentary films, is due to take place at the V&A Waterfront between August 12th and August 29th, giving guests staying at places such as luxury Cape Town hotel The Twelve Apostles the chance to see some new work from both domestic and international filmmakers.
Last year's event was attended by over 10,000 documentary lovers and features a programme of 40 films - 20 of which were made locally - after organised whittled down the record 600 applications.
Visitor numbers were up 25 per cent on 2008's figure and, if the growth continues this year, the festival is set to be one of the biggest on Cape Town's film calendar.
The V&A Waterfront is set against the dramatic backdrop of Table Mountain and guests at The Twelve Apostles who take advantage of the A View From The Top offer will be able to enjoy a complementary cable car trip to the top of the iconic landmark.
