Event: Cape Town International Ballet Competition
Date: July 12th to 17th
World Cup fever may be sweeping through South Africa at the moment, but many people will be looking forward to another competition taking place in the country this summer.
Back in 2008, Dirk Badenhorst, former chief executive of the South African Ballet Theater, sought to shake up the nation's dance calendar with an event that was fresh and new and could be enjoyed by the whole world.
What he came up with was the Cape Town International Ballet competition, a contest that gave a platform to local and international dancers to display their skills.
The event was an overriding success and has since become a significant part of the country's cultural calendar.
This year promises to be bigger and better than ever, with competitors from the UK, USA, Singapore, China and Cuba all participating.
Each dancer will have to perform at their very best, as the panel of judges includes Eduard Greyling and Hae Shik Kim, who is the president of the World Dance Alliance.
This five-day ballet extravaganza is not to be missed and fans can make their holiday even more memorable by booking a stay at the luxury Cape Town hotel the 12 Apostles.
With the Stay Longer and Get One Night Free package, guests can look forward to a complimentary night when staying for a minimum of four, a full South African breakfast each day, use of the hydrotherapy pools, aroma sauna and floatation tank at the Sanctuary Spa and much more.
