Stalls selling a huge number of locally produced wares crowd into the cobbled square every day bar Sunday, offering a variety of clothes, jewellery, crafts, artwork and souvenirs.

Situated just off Shortmarket Street in the city centre, the market was originally a trading location for ships passing through Cape Town to other destinations.

Visitors can secure themselves a bargain or two provided their negotiating skills are up to scratch - bartering is expected and worth a try if that must-have item is beyond budget.
