Event: Visit the Castle of Good Hope
Date: All year
A visit to the Castle of Good Hope, the oldest surviving colonial building in South Africa, promises a great day out for history lovers of all ages.
Built by the Dutch East India Company between 1666 and 1679, the castle was the centre of civilian, administrative and military life in the Cape until the settlement expanded and certain activities were moved away.
Today, the castle is home to the military of the Cape and also houses the Castle Military Museum and Iziko Museums of Cape Town, including the William Fehr Collection.
Various paintings, furniture and decorative arts are also contained within the castle walls, with plenty for history lovers to enjoy.
At the end of the day, visitors can leave the past behind and experience the comfort and quality of the luxury Cape Town hotel the 12 Apostles, which is less than 15 minutes away.
Those who opt for A View From the Top can look forward to sparkling wine on arrival, a five-course set Select menu dinner, a romantic rose petal turndown, complimentary use of The Sanctuary Spa hot jet and cold plunge pools, a trip up Table Mountain by cable car and much more.
