The Out In Africa Film Festival at Victoria and Alfred Waterfront
Event: The Out In Africa South African Gay & Lesbian Film Festival
Date: September 11th until 21st
Back in 1994, a clause was inserted into the South African constitution prohibiting discrimination against individuals on the grounds of their sexual orientation.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, the Out In Africa South African Gay and Lesbian Film Festival was launched.
Some 15 years later and the event is still going strong, seeking to address the lack of visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender and intersex individuals in the country's social and cultural life and to battle negative stereotypes in the media.
The organising committee has arranged five filmmaking workshops producing South African movies, with the belief being that the festival must generate images of its own nation that promote a sense of belonging and pride.
For movie fans it means a ten-day bonanza of films, ranging from comedy to drama.
The Out In Africa South African Gay and Lesbian Film Festival was launched to celebrate a defining point in South Africa's history and guests at the luxury Cape Town hotel can mark a special occasion of their own with the fabulous Celebrations package.
With luxury accommodation in a Classic Room, a five-course dinner for two in the Azure restaurant and an hour-long session in the Sanctuary Spa Rocks Pools, there really is no better place to be.
