Event: Cape Town's Second Biennale Exhibition of Contemporary African Culture
Date: May 2nd until June 21st
It is hard to think of a place which is as culturally diverse as Cape Town, with its fabulous mix of people making it one of the premier destinations for culture vultures to visit.
The various people who make the city the vibrant metropolis that it is are proud of their heritage and the creative talents which have emerged from it in the past and will continue to do so in the future.
It is this thinking which is the basis behind the Biennale Exhibition of Contemporary African Culture, a celebration of Cape Town's rich artistic heritage and its influence on the continent, and, indeed, the world.
Now in its second year, the event seeks to culturally connect Cape Town with South Africa and the nation with its neighbours through the promotion of creativity and the expression of talent.
The theme for 2009 is Convergence and it will explore people, the connections and the networks they construct.
Visitors can look forward to a series of exhibitions, public interactions and several other projects focusing on how Cape Town moves and how people engage with each other.
While the city boasts a wonderfully diverse cultural scene, it is also home to the luxury Cape Town hotel the 12 Apostles, which will also leave a lasting memory in the minds of guests long after they have departed the south-western tip of Africa.
Those who opt for the Retreat From Reality package can look forward a full English breakfast each day, a 90-minute Sanctuary Moya treatment per person, daily use of the spa facilities, a lunchtime picnic basket to enjoy at one of the hotel's eight private mountain picnic sites and much more.
