Event: Cape Town Jazz Festival
Date: April 3rd and 4th
The 2009 Cape Town International Jazz Festival has been billed as "the mother of all celebrations", and for guests staying at the luxury Cape Town hotel the 12 Apostles, the event is not to be missed.
It will be birthday celebrations all round, with the carnival reaching its tenth year and headline act Bra Hugh Masekela marking his 70th year on the planet with an epic show.
Other highlights include performances from Loading Zone, South Africa's guitar wizard Dr Philip Tabane and award-winning saxophonist McCoy Mrubata who are all set to keep the festivities going long into the night.
However, the main event is Africa's Grandest Gathering, which involves vocalist Abigail Kubeka.
Exactly 50 years ago, South Africa's greatest jazz opera King Kong opened to critical acclaim and launched the international careers of Masekala and Miriam Makeba.
As the only surviving member of the original cast Ms Kubeka will give a performance dedicated to Ms Makeba, in what is sure to be a moving tribute to one of the country's biggest stars.
Once the event has finished, visitors will have the opportunity to relax and take in the breathtaking scenery which surrounds Cape Town.
Guests at the 12 Apostles who choose the To The Nines package can look forward to a five-course meal, a flight of nine wines to enjoy with dinner, complimentary movies in the in-house cinema, a choice of spa treatments and much more.
