Rockin' The Rainbow

Event: Rockin' the Rainbow
Date: August 1st until September 1st 2008

An international hit penned by a then unknown African man in 1939 is the inspiration for the Rockin' The Rainbow show which is taking place not far from luxury Cape Town hotel the Twelve Apostles this summer.

Tourism Cape Town reports that Solomon Linda's Mbube later became known as The Lion Sleeps Tonight, which in turn was selected as the theme tune to the family-favourite Disney animated film The Lion King.

In honour of both Linda's contribution to the heritage of South African music and those of "countless more" South African musicians, Rockin' the Rainbow was established by Mike McCullagh.

This tribute show will take place from August 1st until September 7th at GrandWest's Roxy Revue Bar.

South African songwriters from the early 1960s to those writing at the birth of the rainbow nation will be recognised by host Keenan Arrison.

Audiences are promised that they will be "dancing in the aisles" to favourites including Four Jacks and a Jill's "Master Jack" and Miriam Makeba's "Click Song".

Those on family breaks at luxury Cape Town hotel the Twelve Apostles whose children are familiar with the Lion King may enjoy this event, or indeed the special Kids Fun in the Sun package which is available until December 19th 2008.
