Ladies staying at luxury Cape Town hotel the Twelve Apostles this summer will be in for a celebratory treat at the Cape WOW (Women of the World) Women's Festival.

Each year the festival celebrating the essence of womanhood takes place around National Woman's Day in August.

Those attending the festival from nearby luxury Cape Town hotel the Twelve Apostles can enjoy costume balls, workshops and concerts as well as more serious agendas.

Women's conferences and discussions on issues facing women are held at the festival, while proceeds from ticket sales go towards non-profit organisations for impoverished children.

The festival dates back to 1956, Cape Town Travel Guide reports, when thousands of women stood in the streets of Pretoria protesting against bills.

Guests attending from luxury Cape Town hotel the Twelve Apostles need not burn their undergarments in protest just yet though, as the festival is also a celebration of the diversity of South African culture, races and religion.
